Renters' Rights Act changes and moving out
If you are living in a shared house or flat, your fixed-term tenancy agreement will have converted to a periodic tenancy agreement on 1 May 2026. This means your tenancy now runs month to month, with no fixed end date. To move out, you will need to give 2 full months' notice to quit to your accommodation provider. Read more about this here.
If you are living in a private hall, that is a member of the National Code, you are likely to have signed a common law tenancy with a fixed end date. You should move out on that date. Read more about this here.
